Did you watch the Royal Wedding on Friday? I found myself unexpectedly gripped by the event. It also got me thinking about some of the things we can learn from it in the development of our businesses. For me, it was British organisation at its very best. Also, great to see so many people joining in from around the world to watch and celebrate the occasion.
So here are some questions to think about in relation to developing your business. Or to reflect on if you are thinking about your next career role:
1. Engaging people in your events - Not necessarily on the same scale as 'William and Kate', however, how can you engage people in your business and your brand in the build up to any activities you are putting on?
2. Quality - What can you do to improve the quality of your offer with the means that you have? The event oozed quality. However, how can we add to the quality of our offer without such high investment?
3. Going viral - How could you do a Princess Beatrice and go viral over the internet? One internet spoof alone has gained over 116,000 hits regarding her antelope hat. T mobile also released a spoof video of the wedding which has had an incredible level of hits, currently over 18 million. If you haven't seen it!
4. Systems - What systems can you put in place to ensure your customers receive an exceptional experience?
5. People - do you have the right people involved with your business to take it to where you want it to go? Could they rise to the big occasion?
6. Are you ready? - I was extremely impressed by the composure of Will and Kate. Are you investing in your development to ensure that you are ready to be the person you need to be for your vision of the future? Kate's vision apparently was to marry a prince and she achieved it. When she got there she looked and acted every bit the part! If you want to achieve or become someone even more significant, then what do you need to do to be the person you need to be?
7. Celebrate - Finally, I'd like to thank the verger at Westminster Cathedral for his cartwheels, which he should be applauded for. Always celebrate when things have gone well!
Have a great day,
Chris
