How Universal Laws Can Help Us Succeed - SOGR 2

02 February 2011 by Chris Cooper

Last night the 'Be More Achieve More Science of Getting Rich group' reviewed Chapter 2 'There is a Science of Getting Rich'. We also reviewed Chapter 3 which I will talk about in a subsequent blog.

Wallace writes that getting rich is a mathematical certainty. It is a 'natural law' that like causes always produce like effects. So what does he mean and why is it relevant to the entrepreneur or anyone trying to advance themselves? In this blog I will summarise what I understand these natural laws to be and how I personally choose to make sense of them from a business and personal success perspective.

It seems that the universe operates within very strict uniform laws. Scientists say that energy is responsible and theology would say it is god. You take your pick! However, there is great precision in these laws.  If you want to get a sense of some of this order take a look at this amazing video (thanks Kirk) that helps us appreciate the magnificence of the universe and our place in it. Then come back and I'll share my thoughts on the natural laws which interpreted incorporate some of the main secrets of success in life and business.

1. Perpetual Transmutation - this about energy always moving into physical form. So in this way human beings thoughts are energy and we are vehicles to turn energy (ideas) into physical things. Whatever we think about consistently and act upon by this law is likely to be created in reality. The message is it takes clarity of vision, action and persistence to take an idea and transform it into physical form. However, you have the natural law on your side if you choose to be disciplined.

2. Law of Vibration/Attraction - everything is in vibration at a molecular level. We can alter the rate at which we vibrate through our thinking. When I was at college we had this guy we called 'the atmosphere hoover'. He literally walked in the room and the atmosphere sank. We didn't even need to know that he was there. If we are thinking good thoughts we attract people who are on the same level of vibration. For anyone who needs to communicate with others managing our state of vibration is really important. Go in energised and positive and people will pick up on that frequeny and eventually join you there. Think positively and positive thoughts come into reality, think negatively and you attract what you are negatively thinking about.

3. Relativity - there is no such thing as large or small. it is just what we determine. To an ant you are huge. To us the earth is massive. However, we are part of a universe as you can see in the film with billions of other planets and stars. What I take from this is that I can decide whether a task really is big or small. On the face of the earth and universe what I am trying to achieve is miniscule so I should not be daunted by it. Nor should you!

4. Rhythm - there are natural rhythms in the universe. Night always follows day, spring always follows winter. For us there are times when we feel low and others when we feel high even during a single day. There will also be times when things seem to be going badly, however, by natural law they will always be followed by better times. Interestingly when I look at the most challenging times in my life and business career they have turned out to be blessings in disguise. You can can check out the material on the Hero's Journey if yu wish to understand this further.

5.Polarity - everything has an opposite - good/bad, front/back, up/down. Inside/outside.
For me in a business context if you think something is bad, try and look at what also may be good about it. I also have realised that the more you put yourself out there the more people will love what you are doing and the higher the risk that some people will take the opposite perspective. My view is keep your thoughts positive and look for the good in everything.

6. Cause and Effect - action and reaction are equal and opposite. If you read Robert Cialdini's book on influence he writes about recipocity ie give in business to receive. Last night on the call I talked about McDonalds happy meals. They are positioned at a low price and include a toy. My son always wants us to go there to eat even though none of us particularly want too. However, that toy generates the revenure of several family meals a year from us alone. Another point is do something someone does not like, you will get a quick reaction. Do good and it may take longer to come back. Also, through the law it may not necessarily come back from the same source. However, it will return.

7. Gender - every seed has a gestation period. For a seed to acquire the resources it needs to grow into a large tree it may take many years. So do ideas. We guess with our strategic planning that a result will be achieved by a certain date. The reality is we are not fully in control of that gestation period. Sometimes we are right and other times we are not. I love the story 'Three feet from gold' where a man who was digging for gold and eventually gave up. Someone bought the land and mine and only had to dig 3 feet to find a hugely rich vein of gold. When you have an idea, persistance is key.

So in summary there they are. In this chapter Wallace also says that getting rich is not just to do with talent. It is also not about environment. He also says that people get rich in a profession while others in the same profession are failing. Couldn't agree more. It is about us learning to do things in a certain way. However, I do believe to advance fully a person must acquire talent along the way!
