Last week, I ran a tele-seminar with Ruth Henderson on the Hero's
Journey. A great call. However, we had a technical issue and could
not record it. This has opened up a new opportunity. We will
be running it again to record it at 11am on Tuesday 3rd.
if you wish to join the call then email me at
Chris@bemoreachievemore.com by 10am on Tuesday 3rd
and look out for an email with dial in details. Also, state which
country you are calling from. To join, you must have subscribed to
the be more achieve more newsletter.
SO WHAT WERE WE TALKING ABOUT?
The Hero's journey and archetypes are concepts use in business
leadership, branding (called archetypal branding), coaching and
also personal development. They can sound a bit mythological and it
is fair to say they include some ancient wisdom. However, they are
so grounded that top $ multi-million brands and high performing
leaders are investing heavily in applying their learning. So why?
Because it helps them link their products to their consumers and be
more effective in their own journeys. As a consequence, their
investment makes them more money!!

Here is a taster of some of wisdom from our call last week:
WHAT IS THE HERO'S JOURNEY AND ARCHETYPES?
They are the recognition that we go through different stages in
life and business from preparing for a journey, to being in the
journey and then coming out of the journey to prepare for the next
phase.
Our lives are made up of a number of these mini journeys. During
each journey we have ups and downs. The bigger the journey, often
the bigger the roller coaster. If you can't recognise this pattern,
you are unique!
The 12 archetypes are character roles that we play during that
journey. Our dominance in certain ones and weaknesses in others
will determine our success. For example, sometimes we just have to
be 'a ruler' and make a decision. Or 'a magician' (like the Apple
brand) and transform what is around us.
If you think of a film like Star Wars there are ups and downs and
mini adventures during the journey. Luke Skywalker experiences many
phases to his journey. During the adventure, he meets various
characters on it like Yoda ('the sage' archetype).
George Lucas used this concept to develop the movie, basing it
upon the work of Joseph Campbell. This has now become a well known
formula for movie and literary success because people can
personally relate to the essence of the journey and
characters.
Even though it is unlikely you have met Darth Vadar, we can all
recognise the point where we got on the wrong side of a strong
personality! I do - once he was someone drunk and wielding a knife!
On another occasion I found myself working for him!
2. WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS THAT WILL HELP US ACHIEVE
MORE?
a) Life is a journey and not just the end destination. -
The more you wish to achieve, the more learning and growing will be
required to achieve it. During this you will
experience many emotions. However, you must have vision, faith
and persistence
b) Tough times are trials. This is when you learn the most. See
them through and there is almost always a reward that follows. Ever
hear of people who suffer significant failure or illness and say
'it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to
me'?
c) You will experience times of real confusion and frustration.
Where you feel no progress is being made. This is natural. These
phases are necessary to move your thinking to the next stage.
Clarity will eventually prevail.
d) On our journey we will meet guides who can help us. People who
appear and provide support and guidance. Make sure you listen to
the right people. Sometimes we take our advice from impartial
sources like close family or friends who have less awareness than
we do ourselves and biases. It is better to choose impartial
guides. Also, be prepared to pay for the best advice if necessary.
It doesn't all come free!
e) Some of our success will be about taking opportunities when
they come to us. Get the timing wrong and we can miss the boat.
Catching up with the boat can then require much more effort.

f) If you are in marketing or coaching and you haven't heard of
this concept or no little about it, you need to know more. There is
opportunity here for you.
During the call, Ruth bravely talked about how her understanding
of the Hero's Journey helped her very quickly sort out a divorce.
To me, she is a shining example of how to get through a really
tough time and move forward quickly, calmly and with respect. This
embodies the principles of the Hero's Journey!
We also talked about how big brands are using the Hero's Journey
and the archetypes to link their brands to the dominant archetypes
of their consumers. Also, to understand where they are on the
journey and the strategy to take.
WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE?
If you are interested in finding out more about the Hero's Journey
and Archetypes then I would recommend Ruth's recording and two
workbooks. They are a fabulous tool for understanding this
concept better for yourself and for coaching others.
Also, if you want to join tomorrow's recording, then contact me by
latest 10am UK time on Tuesday 3rd and I will let you join our
recorded call for free.
To purchase Ruth's product and study it at home. It is available
in the shop for a low downloadable price. Why? Because we want
people to really benefit from this programme.
