WAKE UP and BE MORE PRODUCTIVE

12 July 2010 by Chris Cooper

While talking with Mike Pagan, author of the book 'Faff- The Power of Doing Without Achieving' I realised that I was not always focusing my efforts when I have the most energy. Also, trying to work through times when I am at my least productive.

Since the conversation, I have started to take some time off after lunch to help get myself really energised. This has had a very positive effect on my day.

At first this seemed strange. Being programmed to work a full day and often over lunch, from my corporate background. However, I realised that I can now give myself the freedom to do what I want, when I want. The only permission I need is my my own.

If you work for yourself and can, why not use your low energy times to do things you enjoy? Why not give yourself the permission to do something different? Go for a run, walk, read a book, listen to some music or even make some noise (like I do in the video below). Anything that gets your energy and enthusiasm up!

If you work in a company, make sure you take your lunch hour, go for a walk etc. The most productive people do take lunch and exercise.

Here is a short video of me re-energising myself for a productive afternoon. Not your usual corporate video this one! Apologies to those who do not like loud rock music!

What could you do in your low energy times to help you get the most from your day?

If this has got you thinking, please do leave a comment!

What an excellent idea! I work outdoors and in the hottest part of the day, I always hit a low-energy level. Perhaps I should go for a ride and listen to some music on the radio or better yet, take music to listen to while I work! Music is always transcending for me - puts me in a better state of mind!
    Simple solution!

Thanks for your comment Beverly. Sounds like getting out of the sun during the hottest hour, drinking water and listening to music might help you. Easy to slog it out and get sapped. Hope it helps.
