How one man followed his passion and created a great business

If you have come out of the relative safety of a job and followed a dream of creating your own small business, you will know that it can be very challenging. The idea of more freedom and flexibility may soon be met with a stark reality. Things rarely move as quickly as you imagined and the phone can initially be strangely quiet!

 

Suddenly, everything is down to you. Ordering stationery, marketing and sales effort to find and attract new clients, buying equipment, invoicing, developing strategy, hiring people, perhaps buying stock, customer service. Phew!

 

One man who has been through the process and has set up a very successful small business while maintaining a balanced lifestyle is Alastair Campbell of the Ideal Marketing Company.

On Wednesday November 3rd at 8pm GMT, I shall be interviewing Alastair to understand his story and how self development has enabled him to achieve more.



Initially, my plan was to focus the interview with Alastair about small business marketing which is his real expertise. He is an author, speaker and consultant with a great reputation for explaining things very simply in a warm and engaging style.



However, on reflection, great value for most of us will come from listening to the case study of a man who has been the through ups and downs of establishing a great business and remained persistent and proactive. Whether you are considering setting up your own business, or have already done it, this is going to be a great call. Alternatively, if you just want some inspiration, you will get it.


In addition, as we all have to market ourselves to be successful, understanding some of the top tips that Alastair has applied to market himself, his business and client businesses are going to be well worth also discussing.  Which should cost you little more than a cappuccino as this is a low cost line.

    Starting out on your own is lonely! So think about the option of employing someone to help you with the paperwork and office chores or to answer the phone, even if only a few hours a week. You'll soon be glad you did!

    Good advice Adwello. Yes it makes a big difference. Also, personally I find employing people very rewarding. And when you make that decision to bring someone in to help you start to feel like a business owner. Developing that feeling of being a business owner builds your self image and confidence.
