How to achieve more when things are tough

19 November 2009 by Chris Cooper

Do you ever have one of those weeks when life seems rough? I have had a number of people speak to me lately who are quite fed up with their circumstances. So I thought I would share some thoughts on how to achieve more when you don't feel like it. Having had a bit of a week of extremes myself.

So here is my pain. This week, my mobile phone has been out of action all week due to a local network problem. Last night, my laptop died. Twice I wondered down in the night, hoping it might come back to life again! The IT Engineer was shaking his head at it today - 'phew looks bad'! 'At least we have the backup'! 'Oh no' it has  become encrypted by Norton Symantic back up software. A new feature for added security apparantly! If angry web comments are anything to go by, no one even Norton, seems to know how to unscramble it!!!

So what do you do? How do you work from feeling 'low' to really being able to achieve more?

Human Story 1 Human Story 2 Human Story 3

My approach today was to:

- Write a list in my journal of all the positive things that are going on right now:- Interest in the 'Be More Achieve More' brand, Tuesday's interview with Mette Bloch. A very inspiring movie actor has said yes to an interview. Enthusiasm for the 'Wealth Keys Retreat' and 'Mastermind programme'. My 3 year old going through a cute stage  'why does Jamie from the XFactor have hair like Broccoli?'. A brilliant question only a child could ask! Also a new baby brother for him only 2 months away. Matthew has called him 'Mr Smelly Mackeral'. Saves us choosing I guess. Hey whats a lap top anyway!

- Speak to several very positive people and be as energetic as them:- If you can do this and leave them feeling upbeat you feel so much better! I allowed myself only a few seconds to explain as positively as I could my predicament. If you ring people and leave them feeling worse than when you called, they might happen to be out the next time you ring!

- Think through the learning from every situation:-I have learned alot this week. Some of it a little painful. Being very disciplined in managing IT equipment and their backup is going to be so important as 'Be More Achieve More' grows.I also had a great reminder that aligning expectations at the start of a project are essential.

- Remember that challenges are often blessings in disguise:- we grow through overcoming obstacles. It is like hitting the wall running marathons. Gosh it can hurt. However, you have to get through the pain to reach the great bits! Also the highs can follow the lows quite quickly. So never give up hope!

- Get some exercise:- A good reminder I shall go shortly!

- Read something really positive: For some positive reading check out my book recommendations and those recommended by Mette in the comments section on the previous blog!

So what is all this about. It is about raising our energy levels so we can achieve more. If everyday we are moving towards our vision we will become more and achieve more!

Make tomorrow a great day!

Chris
