I was watching the programme 'SpiderMan Returns' about a
frenchman who free climbs some of the tallest structures in the
world this week. How he got to the top of one of the twin towers in
Kuala Lumper was astounding. Once he had set off he completely
committed himself. He had no choice but to keep on going until he
was either arrested, fell off or reached the summit. For him
falling was never an option. He had a great desire to do it, faith
he could achieve it, the specialist knowledge necessary and the
imagination to see it through.
This and another programme 'Man on a Wire' became great
metaphors during a tele-seminar I was facilitating last night on
'Think and Grow Rich' by Napolean Hill.
Those people who are truly successful have a dream and do
everything they can to achieve it. Even if people discredit them,
ridicule them, discourage them or they experience temporary
defeat.
I like the quote by Mark Twain 'A person with a new idea is a
crank until the idea succeeds'.
If we have a good idea that we feel very strongly about it, I
believe we should follow it through. We must realise that lots of
people will criticise us for it. Take Marconi whose friends and
family had him taken into in a psychiatric hospital when he said he
had discovered a principle through which he could send messages
through the air, without the aid of wires. I bet they changed their
minds! I may have even helped them carry him in if I had been among
them at the time!
If it feels sound to you and you feel great energy around it,
then you might just be the next big success story! Or at least you
have the satisfaction that you gave it your best shot. Though if it
is something dangerous, do make sure you are a master at it
first!
